Marcia Morey is a lifelong progressive leader and champion for justice. She is a Democratic member of the North Carolina House of Representatives and has been proudly representing District 30 in Durham County since her appointment in 2017.

Extreme Republican policies have dominated the state for over a decade – prioritizing private schools over public schools, millionaires over the middle class, and profit over people. Gerrymandered maps and voter suppression discourages political participation. There was once a time where North Carolina led the country in education and acted as a beacon of hope in the South. Marcia leads with the belief that we can always do more and do better.

Though conservative and corporate interests place blame and try to divide us, we know that collective power makes us stronger. Marcia believes that a better North Carolina is possible. One where we can all receive quality healthcare, access economic opportunity, receive a fair wage, and feel safe in our communities.

Whether it was competing as co-captain of the U.S. Olympic Swim Team in the 1976 Montreal Games, reforming the judicial system from the inside, or debating anti-Democratic legislation on the House floor, Marcia Morey has never backed down from a fight.

Marcia was born in the small town of Decatur, Illinois. Both parents were active in their community and taught her the importance of giving back. Her father was a World War II and Korean War veteran, attorney, and city councilman. Marcia is committed to carrying out that mission in the place she has called home for the past 25 years.

When she isn’t debating on the House floor, you can find her at a protest with a sign in hand.
